Like most people I had a great group of best friends in high school. We were pretty much inseparable, and we had a great four years together.
One of my biggest fears was that after we all went to college- three at IU, two at Notre Dame, and one at Duke- our bond would be over. It’s not that we didn’t care, but everyone would be doing so many different things that I thought there just wouldn’t be time to be as close.Â
Thankfully, I was wrong. I’ve discovered that all it takes is a little bit more effort than before. Weekly planned Skype sessions, a Facebook thread to keep everyone updated, and frequent texting are our new forms of friendship.
The occasional visit also helps.
This past weekend, I and another IU bestie went to visit our Notre Dame friends. It was so great to be reunited again and take a timeout from our busy college lives. It wad also great to see how their lives had changed at school, who their friends are and how they spend their time. The stories make much more sense now because I can put faces with the names!Â
This weekend taught me that no matter what happens or where our lives take us, we will always be best friends forever and always. And also that IU really is the better school!
