Forget “April showers bring May flowers” – it seems like it’s always raining in Gainesville (and always right as you’re commuting to class)!
Here are some crucial do’s and don’ts of UF’s rainy days to help you out:
Dobe prepared. Carry a small umbrella with you at all times in your backpack or purse. Florida’s sunniest days can turn stormy in the afternoon, and you don’t want to be caught off-guard in the downpour.
If you know that the weather will be wet all day, do forgo a cute outfit in exchange for a raincoat (you’ll thank yourself later). Do skip the bike ride and take the bus to class whenever possible, but don’t wait until the last minute to board – the buses fill up fast whenever it’s raining.
Docheck the forecast before you get dressed each morning… if the weather predicts a greater than 30 percent chance of precipitation, it will probably rain. Don’t wear jeans that touch the ground, because the hem will get soaked and then so will your leg. Do wear capris, leggings, or cuffed pants, and – of course – cute rain boots. Don’t wear flip-flops, because it’s easy to slip on the wet plastic.
Don’tstraighten your hair. It will frizz up in the humidity. Do avoid any problems by scrunching it with hair gel, pulling it back into a ponytail, or braiding it. Do have an in-case-of-rain kit with you – include bobby pins, hair ties, and headbands to help you salvage your hair.
Just drizzling? Do be generous with your umbrella’s coverage – offer to share with those who forgot. If it’s pouring, do take cover in the Hub’s Starbucks. Once you step outside, don’t be ambitious with your plans; curl up at home (or in Club West!) with Netflix and some hot chocolate.
Stay dry, Her Campus collegiettes!
