His first full EP, Scrap Paper, was released in May 2010 and is available to download for free online. Since then he has opened for people like Big Sean and Mike Posner (yes, the guy who sings “Cooler Than Me”), maintained an active presence in the Boston music scene and keeps up with school. I’ve personally seen Tha Jist twice in a crowded After Hours, and he gives a fantastic show, so be on the look out for future performances near you. You cannot help but love his songs, when I first downloaded Scrap Paper, it was all I listened to for weeks. These aren’t fluff hip-hop songs either, with misogynistic lyrics that are carried by the chorus. Kasirye’s work fully reflects his musical (and writing) talent, and will always get the party started.
Tha Jist’s next CD, No Idea, is coming out in late Spring/early Summer and he says, “It will be ridiculous.” I highly urge you to check him out and give support to a fellow Northeasterner by clicking the link above and downloading Scrap Paper. You won’t regret it.
Biggest musical influences? Michael Jackson, because he was everything; singer, dancer, videos, the whole package. And Jay-Z, he’s ill and he knows how to make money.
Where will you be in five years? Hopefully in LA, I will be a valuable music artist/song writer. Possibly have a family, if all goes well.
Favorite spot in the world? Either Miami, Florida or Geneva, Switzerland. Imagine the most cool place you’ve ever been in your life, times a trillion, that’s what Geneva is like.
Where can we find you on a Saturday night? Downtown Boston somewhere, with some of the best friends anyone could ask for.
Best 2011 Grammy performance? Bruno Mars, B.o.B. and Janelle Monae
