Attention Fashionistas: Mélange Mixes Up the Runway!

Get excited, collegiettes™!  Today is the launch of Mélange’s new website!

What is Mélange?

Mélange is a fashion entertainment company that celebrates diversity in the fashion industry.  It aims to make high-end fashion accessible and relatable to young, educated professionals through an engaging and creative runway.  Embracing diversity through a range of body types, ethnicities, and ages on the runway, Mélange Productions is invested in transforming the public’s relationship with the fashion industry.  Mélange features designers from all over the globe, attracting a dynamic demographic of viewers.  Fashion, they believe, is a form of self-expression and it is through fashion that we can welcome diversity and promote social change.

Meet Lani and Michelle!
We’re seriously impressed with Lani Wyche and Michelle Wang

Michelle serves as the VP of Client Relations for Mélange.  She’s also working towards a B.A. degree in Psychology, and is expecting to graduate from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2012!  When Michelle met Nick Navarro, Chief Executive Officer, they found they had a similar interest in the fashion industry, as well as a love for diversity.  After receiving a call in July 2010, Michelle was on board without hesitation to create a company that strives to change “the perception of beauty and fashion.”  Michelle believes that Mélange Productions will “act as the catalyst to transform the public’s relationship with the fashion industry by being interactive.”  Their shows encourage “the audience to be a part of the shows by breaking the norm of standard fashion runways.”  Audience members will feel included with a “deconstructed stage” that breaks the barrier between participant and viewer.  All models, Michelle says, “will be of all different ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes, fashioning pieces from designers all over the world in different art forms, such as dance in theater.”  Michelle says to look out for this revolution of the fashion industry- it will be a “mixture (or mélange) of a little bit of everything!”

Lani is the VP of Business Development.  Lani believes that Mélange can make fashion accessible to the “every day person” and to do this, models that “look like you and me” will be featured on the runways!  The fashion industry, she believes, is gradually moving “in the direction of promoting diversity” and Mélange, Lani hopes, will “jumpstart this movement!”  Lani, before her involvement with Mélange, worked with Charity Fashion Show, which is the largest fashion show on the West Coast, and wanted to continue exploring her strength in finance and fundraising.  With a soft spot for fashion (her favorite collection is Alice + Olivia’s Spring/Summer 2011) and an appreciation for diversity in the arts, Mélange was a perfect fit.  Lani is hoping to continue exploring entrepreneurship in fashion and the arts after graduation from Stanford University!

How do YOU get involved?
You do not need to become a member to view the website, but to attend events, you do.  The events are invitation-only to create “a community of like-minded individuals, who believe in the same mission,” says Michelle.  If you, HC reader, are passionate about diversity in fashion and are interested in experiencing this new genre of entertainment and think you should be included, email michelle@membersofmelange.com with a statement about why you care about diversity in the fashion industry because you are a perfect fit!  Sign up for the latest news and announcements from Mélange and check out their new website!
