This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

Looking for a sweet way to end Valentine’s Day—but with something that won’t hurt the wallet and simple to make? Well here are a couple variations of everyone’s favorite comfort drink—homemade hot chocolate!

Nutella Hot Chocolate (Serves 2)
2 Cups Milk (preferably 2%–for that rich flavor)
2-3T. Nutella
Toppings: Whipped Cream, chocolate shavings, or even marshmallows!
Add the Nutella to milk and microwave. Add toppings!

Easy Hot Cocoa (adapted from Hershey’s cocoa) (Serves 2)
4T. Sugar
4T. HERSHEY’S COCOA
Dash of salt.
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

First mix the sugar, cocoa and salt in a large mug.
Heat milk in the microwave for about 1-1/2 minutes or until hot.
Gradually add the cocoa mixture and stir well. Add vanilla and divide between the two of you!

And here’s a little twist to make a vegan hot chocolate for those who are a little daring and don’t mind spending a couple more dollars—oh trust me, this ones super indulgent and delicious!

Vegan Hot Chocolate (Serves 2)
3/4 can full fat coconut milk (not LIGHT!)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
3-4 T of agave or maple syrup (honey could work, but not sure how it will taste!)
3/4 original soymilk or unsweetened almond milk
And a pinch of sea salt
Garnish with: cacao nibs, chocolate chips and even whipped cream

Throw all ingredients into a pot and whisk. Bring to a boil and then simmer on low for several minutes while whisking to remove any clumps. Pour into mugs and add toppings

So now instead of ordering that tall signature hot chocolate from Starbucks, share these recipes with the ones you love—your boyfriend, best friends, and let them taste the goodness of these indulgent comfort drinks!
