A Philanthwompic Success, Getting Ready for the Blizzard + Wednesday’s New Hot Spot

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

As the C-U prepares for a blizzard, students are scrambling looking for tickets to the sold out Snoop Dogg show at the Canopy Club tonight.  Canopy boasts an impressive line up of artists that are set to perform in the coming months such as Skrillex and Robyn.

The Canopy Club truly shined this past weekend when “Philanthwompy” hit the stage. The event was a great success, bringing the community together in order to raise funds for a good cause. Jennifer Ruppert and Lindsey Dulla handcrafted decorations to make the Canopy Club look truly special. Sometimes it is the hard work that goes on behind the scenes that makes an event a hit. I had actually never been to the Canopy Club before Saturday’s event, but Ruppert and Dulla made it a sight to see.  “Philanthwompy” raised $5,000 for the Crisis Nursery and Special Olympics. Props to Positive Vibr8ions, Milk N Cookies, along with all of the musicians that performed for putting on an amazing show!

So last Wednesd
ay I hit Joe’s with my roommate for a typical night of cheap drinks. Upon entering the dance floor, I see a long folding table set up in the middle of the room with not one but THREE DJs. I knew I hadn’t pre-gamed that hard to be seeing triple, so upon doing some further observing I realized it was the ever innovative DJ John Han along with DJ Spydey and Real Co. Han has created a special Wednesday night at Joe’s called “Bombs Away” featuring three live DJs spinning at once and $4 G Bombs. I still am somewhat puzzled as to how they pull this act off, but needless to say, I love it! You can check them out this Wednesday at Joe’s, and maybe even make three requests at once.
