Ever been stuck in an elevator with a woman who’s wearing so much perfume (or simply such an intense scent) that you can just feel your oxygen supply slowly fading away? Of course you have; we’ve all been there.
With the help of Women’s Health magazine, you’ll never have to worry about being that type of woman. In their September issue, the experts at Women’s Health offer you some tips for keeping your sexy summer scent light and sweet.
Summer might seem like it’s coming to a close—what with that back to school date looming ahead—but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy all that the season has to offer. And that includes finding your perfect scent! Here are just a few tips to help you in this mission!
1. Pick a less concentrated form
Opt for a great-smelling body lotion, eau de toilette or cologne because they contain less perfume oil than headier eau de parfums and parfums.
Try Faith Hill True, $32, at drugstores
2. Look for discreet notes
If you’re looking for a subtle smell, look for green notes (like mint or green tea) and citrus notes (bergamot, lemon or grapefruit). But before doing a little celebratory dance, be sure to test it out on your skin first because these scents can sometimes turn unpleasant depending on your specific body chemistry.
Try Acqua di Gioia, $62, acquadigioia.com
3. Opt for organic
Ever wonder how some fragrances are like the Energizer Bunny and just keep going and going? These ones are likely made up of synthetic fragrances molecules. If you’re the non-committal type of gal and don’t want a long-lasting scent, then lighter natural scents are your best bet.
Try Korres Pepper/Jasmine/Gaiac Wood/Passion Fruit, $45, korresusa.com
4. Easy does it
When it comes to fragrance, ladies, less is most definitely more. Your fragrance shouldn’t slap those around you in the face, and one squirt of perfume is usually plenty enough. To apply, just mist the crook of one elbow so that the scent wafts about as you move your arms, or spray the skin between your shoulder blades to give those who hug you a faint whiff.
