Many of you may have read Meagan’s recent article on donating hair. Well here’s another fabulous and uplifting story of turning beauty into charity. Nexxus® Salon Hair Care recently partnered with Locks of Love for an online makeover contest that encouraged women to reveal why they wanted to donate their hair to Locks of Love.
The winner, Brandi Landry, traveled from Louisiana to New York City for a hair cut and styling session with Kevin Mancuso, celebrity stylist and Nexxus Creative Director. Check out pictures of Brandi’s transformation below!
But Brandi’s fabulous makeover and act of charity wouldn’t have been possible if she hadn’t followed certain guidelines for making sure her hair was actually usable. Many women who get their hair cut with the intention of donating it to various organizations such as Locks of Love don’t follow these guidelines and their hair ends up being unusable.
To prevent this, take a look at the following guidelines to ensure the hair is actually usable.
Locks of Love Donation Guidelines:
* Hair must be secured in a ponytail or braid before it is cut; and the cut must be made above the hair elastic.
* Hair must be at least 10 inches from the elastic to the tip.
* Hair must be clean and completely dry before it is mailed.
* A ponytail should be placed in a plastic bag and then into a padded envelope.
* Include the official hair donation form – available at www.LocksofLove.org – to be acknowledged for the donation.
* All hair donations must be mailed to Locks of Love at: 234 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33405-2701
