Every once in a while, a motivating person comes along who makes you feel like you can do anything. For me, today, that person today is Pitbull (hear me out). Allow me to introduce you to the “Been There Done That” TikTok trend, which features an audio excerpt from Pitbull and Ne-Yo’s 2014 song “Time of Our Lives.” #BeenThereDoneThat is the perfect trend to hop on if you’re going through tough times, feeling overwhelmed, or dealing with any sort of minor inconvenience — yes, cardio counts. The trend reminds you that whatever you’re going through, fear not! Mr. 305 has already #BeenThereDoneThat.
As someone who has listened to her fair share of Pitbull songs over the years (shout-out to this bop from 2009, a simpler time), I can say that hearing one of his songs in a TikTok trend makes me way too happy. Are you feeling personally victimized by your Excel sheet? Did you accidentally melt your dance costume with an iron hours before your recital? Whatever you’re going through, I’m here for you. And Pitbull is, too.
The “Been There, Done That” TikTok trend features the lyrics: “This is for everybody going through tough times/Believe me, been there, done that/But every day above ground is a great day, remember that.” And if I’m being honest, something about TikTokers pairing the soundbite with their current woes is totally priceless. Although Pitbull has most likely not had to deal with a sassy emu or falling through a stranger’s ceiling like some of you (I have questions, and also, are you okay?) it’s still nice to know you’re not alone.
To try the “Been There, Done That” trend, grab your phone and record your reaction to a situation that’s got you down, whether it’s dealing with a stressful internship or getting stopped by TSA (just saying, this one made me LOL). Then, write something like: “When you’re having a rough day but Pitbull has already been there, done that” or something similar to this caption from TikTok user @t00riiii: “literally unemployed w/like $10,000 in credit card debt but Mr. Pitbull has been there AND done that, so I’m vibin’.” Listen, riding the struggle bus isn’t always pretty, but at least Mr. Worldwide is on it with all of us.
I’m forever impressed with TikTok’s ability to prove itself as the most eccentric, creative, yet weirdly encouraging app on my phone, and I hope the fun continues forever. The “Been There, Done That” trend is fun and ironic with a hint of sarcasm while somehow managing to be genuinely uplifting — TBH, you love to see it. Check out #BeenThereDoneThat during your next TikTok scroll fest, try the trend for yourself, and who knows, it may even help reverse your tears. Remember: if Pitbull can do it, so can you.
