Are you planning on going through recruitment this fall? If you’re like me, you’ve probably been on Bama RushTok at least for a little while. Here’s a few things you should know if you’re thinking about joining a sorority at YSU .
- Rush… recruitment… what’s the difference?
-
There really isn’t one. Recruitment is a new, more formal way of saying “rush.” According to thesororitylife.com, this change was made in 1998 to “emphasize the value of ethics within membership recruitment and reflect terminology already in use.” So if you’re planning on going through recruitment and someone asks you if you’re rushing, the answer is yes!
- It Won’t take an entire week
-
The Bama Rushtoks seemed like they were living on our FYP for awhile, and at some larger southern universities, recruitment can last about a week or even more. At YSU, recruitment goes from Thursday to Sunday, with Sunday being bid day! We have less chapters than larger schools, so it doesn’t take as long to meet with all of them.
This year, recruitment will take place Thursday, September 23rd – Sunday, September 26th.

- What does Panhellenic mean?
-
The National Panhellenic Conference is made up of 26 women’s only organizations. As I said earlier, the four sororities I listed above are part of the NPC. The other chapters of these sororities at other schools are also part of the NPC. So the ZTA chapter at YSU and the ZTA chapter at Alabama are both part of the NPC.
The purpose of the NPC is “to assist collegiate and alumnae chapters of the NPC member organizations in cooperating with colleges and universities and to foster interfraternal relationships.”
If you are looking for more information about joining a Panhellenic sorority, thesororitylife.com has more information for Potential New Members, or you can reach out to any of the four chapters here at YSU, or the YSU Panhellenic instagram (@ysupanhellenic).
