New York Fashion Week 2021 was one for the books. From a star-studded front row to everyone one dressing their best street style, it feels just like old times. Designers Christian Siriano and Michael Kors were some of the top shows to walk during NYFW and absolutely set the bar when it comes to next year’s fashion week. Let’s get into some of my favorite collections.Â
Michael Kors
The top collection that still has my heart is Michael Kors. From the location to the theme, everything was just amazing. Michael Kors had his star-studded fashion show in Central Park, N.Y. He had singer Ariana Debose serenade the crowd live with romantic songs such as Nat King’s L.O.V.E (this man really knows how to set a vibe). Models such as Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Imaan Hammam graced the stage and absolutely killed the outfits they wore. The overall silhouettes of the outfits gave me a very 60’s feel, and I couldn’t be more in love.Â
Christian Siriano
A designer who could do no wrong in my eyes. His collection was absolutely breathtaking. The bright colors, the designs, it was amazing. I’ve literally been fawning over this collection because I can’t get enough of it. The entire show was made up of business, formal, and evening wear. Throughout his collection, I saw a lot of classic and timeless pieces that will probably be around for years, in my opinion.Â
Dundas x Revolve
This collection became a new favorite. There were a couple of questionable pieces that weren’t my personal taste but overall, I enjoyed this collection. I loved the use of thigh-high boots. The way the boots were paired with sweater dresses and jumpsuits was a great combination. The part that caught my eye was the use of red and animal prints throughout this collection. I also thoroughly enjoyed the ending pieces. I would say the last ten outfits were really amazing and brought on a true finale.
Laquan Smith
This NYFW was my first time being exposed to Laquan Smith, and can I just say OBSESSED. First of all, let’s not forget to mention that his collection was the first-ever fashion show to take place at the top of the Empire State building. That is already setting the standard. Then, you have the actual fashion, and he again did not disappoint. His color palette was quite interesting. He went from browns to whites to blues, then black. He then went to reds and included some sheer dresses with a couple of models.
In my opinion, I feel he left no category untouched. There were items that had an athletic appeal, items that were more casual and items you could wear for the evening.Â
Bronx & Banco
This collection gave me strong, rich vacation vibes. The color palette was very earthy with your tans, browns, and greens with spots of rust and black throughout the show. I loved the island feel, and I can definitely see celebrities wearing this on their yachts.
Overall, It felt so good seeing NYFW in full swing, and these designers definitely did not disappoint. This is my first time writing about NYFW, so this was an enjoyable experience watching the shows from the standpoint of a writer instead of just a fan. This season had some really solid collections, but these particular designers just blew me away. A girl can only dream of owning at least one of these pieces. Until then, you will probably see me on the lookout to see what stars will grace these looks on upcoming red carpets.
