Prior to joining this organization, I always had a passion for celebrating and appreciating women, but never knew how to use it. I often felt like society made the concept of appreciating girls and celebrating girl power seem excessive and unnecessary. Many people just assume you’re an extreme liberal feminist if you have any sort of passion for women’s rights and inequalities. In fact, being vocal and enthusiastic about women’s rights shouldn’t be seen as political. Women should be valued every single day by every single type of person, as we face more challenges and obstacles than men in society. Women are constantly objectified, manipulated, and disrespected, solely because of our gender. As a woman, I feel these struggles and want to celebrate who I am as a woman along with others, leading to my involvement in Her Campus.Â
Her Campus allows me to express myself and share my thoughts through writing. It is a safe space where I can write whatever I want, free of misogynistic opinions and judgement. Not only does Her Campus offer opportunities for women with writing, but also through marketing, social media, and event planning. Furthermore, you don’t have to want to work in journalism, marketing, or public relations to be in this organization. I am an Adolescent Education major and joined Her Campus because of my passion, not because it is related to my future profession. Her Campus is open to all individuals and you can feel the welcoming atmosphere the second you join the organization. Her Campus is a place where women can feel safe, appreciated, and heard. Joining Her Campus was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made in college as it has helped me grow as both a female and a human being.Â
