- Let’s start off with an essential. Whether or not “scary” is your thing, going to a haunted house in October is a must. My first haunted house was terrifying; I held on to my friend’s dad’s arm the whole time, but I got over my initial fear and now I love them. Going with a group of friends can also make the experience less terrifying, especially if you have one of those friends that makes fun of everyone the whole time. Essentially, a haunted house is what you make of it; you can choose to set the mood and make it extra scary or you can go and just have fun.
- Caramel apple-making is severely underrated. What’s not fun about eating all the caramel squares with your friends before they’re even melted? Set up a fun station with bowls of different spooky sprinkles while playing Halloween music in the background. Take some pictures of the process too; your VSCO will thank you. ;)
- You all knew this one was coming. It is not Halloween without jack-o’-lanterns. Carving pumpkins is a tradition that must always be continued. I have fond memories of going to the pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins with my siblings (the fat ones are always the best) and then carving them all together with my dad right before we left to go trick-or-treating. Painting pumpkins can be a fun activity too, especially if you’re not up for the rigorous sawing that carving entails. Either way, I better be seeing some decorated pumpkins around campus or I’m throwing a fit.
- Bonfires are the perfect fall event. Especially if it’s getting a little crisp outside, a bonfire can be super cozy and fun. I recommend inviting your close group of friends over, heating up some apple cider and hot chocolate, and roasting some marshmallows by the fire. You can even bring out some cozy blankets and snuggle up together on some chairs.
- This is my favorite fall event of all time. I do this every year at least once with my friends. The list for my must-watch movies goes as follows: Halloweentown and Halloweentown II, Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas. A necessary component of this movie night is the Pillsbury Halloween cookies (you know which ones I’m talking about). I recommend two packages: one to eat raw and one to cook. Make the setup super cute. I love to light a ton of fall candles and compile a bunch of blankets and pillows. I also like to plan a separate day just to watch Halloween episodes of my favorite shows (I’m talking about Friends). If you want to plan anything fun the week of Halloween, this should be it.Â
