Ladies and gentlemen – her ! After being on a hiatus for six years, Adele is finally back with a taste of her fourth studio album ‘30’. Slated to be released in November, the album looks like it will be worth the wait. On Tuesday, Oct. 5, Adele posted a snippet of her first single, ‘ Easy On Me’, which sent fans into a frenzy and trended at number one on Twitter worldwide. Earlier this month, fans began to wonder whether the singer was plotting her long-awaited return when her social media accounts were given makeovers. Her profile pictures were changed on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube with a teal design, leading many to believe that a new era was in the works.
The title ‘Easy On Me’ is a message to her fans to go easy on her as she begins charting aspects of her relationship and divorce from Simon Konecki. The song is an account of the dissolution of a marriage for the benefit of the child it affected and a defense on the difficult choice while requesting for understanding. The British superstar told British Vogue,“I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his 20s or 30s, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness,” At the beginning of the song, Adele explores the moment she found the courage to leave her marriage. The song is the epitome of what a ballad is supposed to sound like – after listening to the song a few times, it is evident that it’s just a grand piano and her powerful voice gracing the track. Adele phrases her messages in the song in a way that we all can relate to.
The ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ singer is truly a gem to the music industry, as she does not conform to the trends of music today, and remains true to who she is and what she wants her music to represent. After releasing her single at midnight in the U.K., music streaming service Spotify, took to Twitter to announce that ‘Easy On Me’ has become the most streamed song in a single day on their platform. It’s safe to say that Adele has truly been missed, and is here to stay. November 19 cannot come fast enough!
