When we think of fall and winter, we think of sweaters, spiced drinks, and seasonal activities but we also need to remember it’s flu season. To lessen your worry, here are some helpful tips to stop the spread of germs. Let’s keep ourselves – and others – safe from the flu.
- Wash your hands often and carry hand sanitizer.
You’ve heard this many times but the doors we open, the elevator buttons we touch, and even our phones carry germs. There are sanitizer dispensers around campus or you may also carry your own hand sanitizer. A simple act like washing your hands frequently protects you from germs and keeps others safe.
- Avoid close contact with people if you are sick and people who are sick.
If you know you or someone else is not feeling well try to avoid hugging, kissing, or shaking hands. It is best to keep it safe and practice social distancing.
- Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
Germs can be spread through the air and close personal contact. When sneezing or coughing, do so into your elbow but never in your hand and move away from others. Face coverings are still required on campus, so keep them up!
- Stay home if you’re not feeling well.
It doesn’t hurt to keep it safe and stay home if you aren’t feeling well. To feel better, you should get lots of rest and consider making a doctor’s appointment or getting tested. Make sure to let your professor know you won’t be in class and get the notes from another student. This will help prevent others from getting sick.
- Keep practicing other healthy habits.
The state of our well-being involves the body and mind to be balanced. Some healthy habits to consider are getting enough hours of sleep, staying active, eating healthy, drinking fluids, and disinfecting and cleaning surfaces at home or in school.
Remember to keep you and others safe this flu season.
