To celebrate that the queen herself a.ka. “Blondie” a.k.a. Taylor Alison Swift is releasing Red (Taylor’s Version) on November 12, 2021, I wanted to take a look at why we all love her so much: her relatable af content.
- “State the obvious: I didn’t get my perfect fantasy.”- “Picture to Burn,” Taylor Swift
- Yeah, yeah. Talk about my SENIOR YEAR (Class of 2020). Life’s not perfect, but Taylor’s here to sing to us anyway.
- “I never got past what you put me through, but it’s wonderful to see that it never phased you.”- “Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version),” Fearless (Taylor’s Version)
- Nothing like feeling wayyyy more hurt than the person who hurt you. And the sarcasm is really just on point for me. These wounds run deep.
- “Now I’m standing alone in a crowded room, and we’re not speaking.”- “The Story of Us,” Speak Now
- Okay, but yes. ESPECIALLY going to a small school and running into exes and ex-friends on the reg. That wonderful feeling when someone you used to care about walks by you as if you don’t exist. Personally, I felt that.
- “I’d like to be my old self again, but I’m still trying to find it.”- “All Too Well,” Red
- When you feel hurt, you just feel hurt. It sucks when you feel like someone has taken your power away from you. Until you work through things, you won’t see how that hurt is changing you for the better. You just want to feel happy.
- “We’re all bored. We’re all so tired of everything.”- “New Romantics,” 1989
- Sometimes, especially after COVID, I am just over it. We college students know the all-too-familiar rut where we question what we’re even doing here. Do I really need to read that chapter? Will I really have fun if I go out?
- “If a man talks shit, then I owe him nothing.”- “I Did Something Bad,” reputation
- Yes, yes, yes, Taylor is back on her feminist shit. We love to see it. Down with the patriarchy!
- “All of my enemies started out friends. Help me hold on to you.”- “The Archer,” Lover
- Okay, but can we just acknowledge the truth of this lyric? It is the WORST type of betrayal when someone you love so deeply turns on you. And college has shown me a thing or two about this experience.
- “I’ve been having a hard time adjusting.”- “this is me trying,” folklore
- This whole song is just one big MOOD. Not to bring up my girl ‘rona again, but she made college adjustment a lot trickier.
- “I made you my temple, my mural, my sky. Now I’m begging for footnotes in the story of your life.” – “tolerate it,” evermore
- Ouch. I definitely have given more of myself to certain people than they have given in return. Not fun. And she describes it so freaking artistically. Well done, Taylor.
- “I get sad”- “Gasoline,” HAIM’s Women In Music Pt. III (Expanded Edition)
- Fun bonus of a feature song! And yeah, when Taylor sang that she gets sad, I felt that.
