The semester is rapidly coming to an end, and most of us will begin to study for our finals very soon. With that being said, I want to share my three biggest tips that will help you ace those exams and leave you feeling like you did the best you could.Â
Time management- start in advance!
The number one thing that I feel students struggle with is time. It’s the night before your big exam, and you have hours of studying to do. This feeling of anxiety and stress is something that we should strive to diminish. I would recommend starting at least 2-3 weeks before your exam. For some people, this might feel like too much time in advance. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to start studying for hours every day, this could just be planning what your next week is going to look like or even just doing a few practice problems.
If you have any doubts- speak to a professor!
If you are not understanding a topic, speak to a professor or a T.A. as soon as you can. From personal experience, I have found that instead of trying to search for the answer online, it is so much better when you have someone explain it to you in person. That way, you are able to actually comprehend it and you can ask questions as well. After all, their job is to help you succeed.Â
Limit distractions!
This is a recommendation that many may find hard to follow. I would recommend turning your phone off or leaving it behind when you are studying. We hear this all the time, but the benefits are rewarding. When your phone isn’t around, we study better. We stay engaged, focused, and we don’t end up extending our study time by hours when we don’t need to. Our mind focuses on just engaging with the material, instead of scrolling on Tik Tok or Instagram. Â
