‘Tis the season for cozying up on the couch and watching movies with a warm blanket and hot chocolate. I know we’re all supposed to spend December studying for exams… but there’s just something irresistible about that huge selection of Netflix Christmas movies.

Hallmark movies have an infamous reputation for cheesiness, and unfortunately, some mainstream Christmas movies aren’t much better. There’s nothing like a cliché, over-the-top plot to ruin movie night.

1. The Holiday

Natalie (Nina Dobrev) is a journalist who makes a career out of writing about her terrible love life. After finally finding her perfect match on a dating app, she decides to fly 3,000 miles to surprise him for the holidays. However, she quickly discovers that she’s been catfished. Will Natalie settle for Josh (her catfisher) or will she be tempted by the man whose photos Josh used to catfish her with, who just happens to be in town?
3. Klaus

This hand-drawn animated film follows postman Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) and toymaker Klaus (J.K. Simmons). Both men form an alliance and work together to deliver holiday gifts to mend an age-old feud and return the Christmas spirit to the town of Smeerensburg.

Siblings Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy (Judah Lewis) embark on a Christmas Eve mission to capture Santa Claus on camera. When their plans turn into an unexpected journey, the kids decide to join forces with Saint Nick (Kurt Russell) to save the holiday before it’s too late.

After nearly 15 years apart, college friends Mia (Monica Calhoun), Lance (Morris Chestnut), Harper (Taye Diggs), Robyn (Sanaa Lathan), Murch (Harold Perrineau), Candace (Regina Hall), Jordan (Nia Long), and Quentin (Terrence Howard), reunite over the Christmas holidays. However, they soon find out that their college rivalries and romances may not be so easily forgotten over the years.
With all that said, no Christmas movie is perfect, and while some of these films have their cheesy moments, they own it, which makes for a pretty enjoyable watch.
