Unfortunately, finals are right around the corner, cold season is upon us, and grey skies are more common than usual. It’s important to take care of yourself, mind and body, to help you feel your best during this time. Although it can feel difficult to have moments of self-care while in college, it’s not impossible. Here are some quick ideas to implement into your daily routine because, at the end of the day, everyone deserves to treat themselves:
1. Nature’s healing
Just because the temperature has gotten lower does not mean your mood has to. Being outside is one of the easiest ways to clear your head and boost serotonin levels. Nature is healing, it’s true, and even a quick walk can make worlds of a difference.
2. Unplug
I’ll be the first to admit that my phone is by my side pretty much everywhere I go and I know I’m not the only one. Putting technology away for ten minutes to an hour a day (or longer if you can) is such a good way to practice self-care. It will release some of the stress you might not even know you had and ground you to your surroundings which will help to relax you.
3. Create a skincare routine
Face masks or any form of skincare is a great way to implement self-care into your daily routine. It is a task that makes you physically show the gratitude and care you have for your body. By creating both a morning and night routine, you will begin and end your day on a positive and healthy note.
4. Take a music break
Music can be such a mood-booster and a way to distract negative thoughts in your head. I put in my air pods for every walk to class as a way to clear my mind before I have to get into a lecture and note-taking headspace. It’s helpful to have a pre-made playlist for all of your go-to mood-boosting songs for whenever you need a little lift.
5. Eat the chocolate
The biggest thing you can do throughout the day is give yourself permission to take that nap, watch your favorite show, or just allow yourself to take a break. Indulge. Know that you are doing your best and you deserve it. Eat the chocolate!
