Team USA has 108 women competing in the Winter Olympics, which is the most women for any nation, and the most in the history of the Olympics. This is monumental for women in sports and gets them closer to equality. That being said, here are some women you should watch this year.
First, The USA Women hockey team has medaled at every Olympic appearance they showed up to. In the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, they won gold, which was their second gold since the 1998 winter Olympics. They are back to defend their gold medal. It won’t be an easy task with having to face their rivals, the Canadian hockey team.
Now we go to the slopes, where Chole Kim who won the halfpipe in Pyeongchang is favored to win gold again. If she wins, Chole will be the first woman to win back to back in halfpipe snowboarding. Another woman to watch in snowboarding is Jamie Anderson, who competes in the slopestyle. She won gold in Sochi and then again in Pyeongchang. She’s looking to complete a three-peat in Beijing.
These aren’t the only women to watch in the Winter Olympics, but are some of the hard hitters for team USA. Another amazing team is the Russian women figure skating team, who are expected to sweep the women’s podium.
