See it and Believe it: How to Make Your Vision Board a Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

As the new year approaches, we often reflect on our previous experiences and come to create resolutions we hope to fulfill in the future. We reflect on things we may have regretted or wished to change, as well as things we may have loved and hope to carry into the new season. While some choose to stack lists of tasks they want to accomplish, vision boards have become a popular tool individuals utilize nowadays.

Vision boards are often used to visually display goals, desires, and aspirations longed for. Whether it be words or pictures, these boards can be more powerful than one might realize. While some may create these simply for the aesthetic, many use it as a tool to manifest lifestyles they desire to attract. The hype around the concept of manifestation spread like wildfire but the vital component where thoughts are put into actions which then prompts results is not talked much about. Here are my takes on how you can make your vision board a reality:

Show up as the person you want to be. Put yourself in that mindset.

Before you chase your dreams and conquer the world physically, it is always important to check in with yourself mentally and emotionally. Any hindrance to this process could work against your favor in achieving your goals. Showing up as the person you want to be means putting you first so that you are able to move forwards confidently. It means putting effort into the aspects of your life that may need elevation in order to properly strengthen the condition of your wellbeing.

Put that work in!

If you want your life to move in a certain direction, you have to give it the potential to. Yes, it is important to visualize and train yourself to believe you are worthy of good things, but the work does not stop there! You have to form the habits necessary to ensure you’re stepping towards the future you envision for yourself. For instance, if I know I want to establish a healthier lifestyle, I would plan on going to the gym or perhaps implementing a more appropriate diet. If I was to simply think about going to the gym, the goal would die there. Putting action to thoughts is the power needed to truly manifest what it is you’re desiring.

Be realistic and give yourself grace

While it is more than okay to challenge yourself in regard to what you hope to accomplish, understand what you can and cannot handle. Oftentimes we compare ourselves to strangers on the internet and observe their achievements in comparison to our own. Give yourself time and space to strive towards your own goals. Don’t feel pressured to subscribe to harmful trends! Everyone is on their own timeline, there’s no need to rush.

Working towards your goals can feel like a bit of an uphill battle sometimes. It won’t always be easy. Some tasks are simpler than others and we may cross some off of the “realm of possibility” list completely. When striving towards the lifestyle you wish to obtain, it’s important to keep the end goal in mind so that you don’t fall into a pit of discouragement. Learning and growing as you work towards your highest potential is what life is all about. It’s what molds us into the people we want to be so that we may enjoy the world we create for ourselves. While curating vision boards is a fun way to see what certain ways of living could look like for you in the future, the greater significance of it all is learning how to see what you want and take it by force.
