This year I decided to challenge myself to listen to new music and podcasts. In honor of Black History Month, it would only be fair to share them with you! After spending time gathering intel on TikTok and Instagram of everyone’s favorite podcasts created by black women, I created a Spotify playlist (that is still ongoing!) of all of their first/intro episodes to get a feel for each one before I start each individual series. You can find that playlist here, and a description of the first 3 black women created podcasts I found below.
Relationshit
Relationshit is, “an advice podcast that covers all relationship topics – the good, the bad, and the straight up shitty. Relationships are hard. Whether they be with romantic partners, coworkers, family members or friends – some shit is always bound to go down.” I was always a fan of Kamie Crawford, especially since she started her job as Nev’s cohost on Catfish, so when I saw that she promoted her podcast, Relationshit, on her instagram, I knew I had to give it a listen and I absolutely loved the first episode of the podcast and definitely will continue listening. I love how real Kamie is, the behind the scenes info on Catfish and hearing her perspective on relationship issues.
Balanced Black Girl
The Balanced Black Girl Podcast is, “dedicated to helping you feel your best. Tune in for approacheable health, self-care, personal development and well-being advice from Black women wellness experts.” I love the intro episode of this podcast where Les, a personal trainer and nutrition coach, speaks about the mainstream version of wellness, doesn’t cater towards women of color and how her podcasts will be exactly that, an open discussion of wellness, nutrition, self-care and so much more catered toward women of color.
Black Girl Blueprint
Black Girl Blueprint, “was founded on the belief that Black girls have long been the ones to set the trends and transform the culture in a way that only we can. To put it simply: our podcast is devoted to showcasing raw, unflitered, and unapologetic Gen Z and Black girl perspectives. Our weekly episodes will center the voices and celebrate the accomplishments of young Black women who have made their own impact on and within the culture.” The first episode of this podcast introduces the two founders: Makeen and Lauren, where they introduced themselves, what they want to talk about in terms of black culture and the many issues that are going on in the black community at the time with black women such as Meg the Stallion, Flo Milli, and etc.
The rest of the podcasts can be found in my spotify playlist linked here called black girl podcasts, and I highly recommend checking it out. You can find podcasts that appeal to many different subjects created by black women on their very unique walks of life. Happy Black History Month!
