One thing all college students can agree on is, we’re all broke. Most of our cash is spent on tuition, books, gas and then the small amount we have left goes towards groceries.
The groceries we purchase are not typically the healthiest, nor are they Martha Stewart approved but they do their job. The fun thing about college is there are no parents. No nagging mother to tell you to “EAT YOUR VEGETABLES”. Most of us are way too jazzed up on caffeine to have an appetite, (PSA, caffeine is not a food group. I know, shocking) therefore, veggies probably will not be entering our system. But what if they could?
Here are a few of the staple college foods we make each day but with a twist. Living on a budget can be frustrating, but it can also be equally delicious.
Famous Tik tok ramen
Tik Tok has taken over every cellphone. Don’t try and deny it, I know you have it.
A particular side of Tik Tok is dedicated to food or what I call “food porn”. You can find the best meal ideas on a budget and that work with your busy schedule. Ramen tik tok has become one of my favorite sections.
This particular recipe calls for:
- instant noodles (ramen packet)
- Butter
- Garlic
- Egg
- Soy Sauce
The reason I love this recipe so much is that the total cook time is 6 minutes. Perfect amount of time for a break between study sessions. https://iamafoodblog.com/tiktok-ramen/
Grilled pb&j
PB&J’s are the holy grail of our childhood. They are sweet + nutty and make all dreams seem possible, or maybe that’s just my obsession with peanut butter talking.
What if instead of a boring PB&J on bread, it was on toast! Which is technically still bread but GRILLED. You’ve heard of cheese pulls, well imagine peanut butter and jelly pulls. *FOOD PORN* https://www.landolakes.com/recipe/21330/grilled-peanut-butter-jelly-sandwich/
Garlic toast pizza
This recipe has been used quite often in my apartment. It is so easy and DELICIOUS. All you need is garlic bread, I recommend the one with cheese on top, pizza toppings, and pizza sauce. It is seriously the easiest thing and bonus, you can get all the ingredients at the dollar store. https://tasty.co/recipe/15-minute-garlic-bread-pizza
Being a broke college student can seem like a real pain in the a** because it is. But, it doesn’t mean your tastebuds have to suffer.
