While it may still be a little chilly here in Seattle, as spring approaches, we should get outside more and take advantage of the nice weather when we have it. There’s nothing more refreshing and relaxing than getting outside and going on a walk. Around campus, there are so many beautiful places to go on a walk.
Burke Gilman Trail
One of the best walks on campus is the Burke Gilman Trail! The trail is 20 miles long, stretching from Bothell to Ballard, and goes right through campus. It goes along the side of campus, past the IMA and the stadium, and by the hospital. You can keep walking along the trail to get to Gas Works Park on Lake Union. There you’ll find great views of the city and more paths to walk along.
Green Lake
The walk around Green Lake is another great place to walk near campus. Green Lake is about 2 miles from campus and the loop around the lake is just under 3 miles. You’ll see people walking their dogs, running, and even roller skating! Going to Green Lake is the perfect easy yet scenic walk. There’s lots of nature and opportunities for people watching.
Washington Park Arboretum
The Arboretum is just across the Montlake Cut and close to campus. It sits between Montlake and Madison Park. There are lots of trees and plants, making it the perfect place to walk and connect with nature. There are gardens, gazebos, trails, and so much more to explore!
Ravenna Park
Just north of campus is Ravenna Park. It is about a mile from campus and easy to walk to in about 20 minutes. There is a walking trail loop that is just under 2 miles long. It’s the perfect place to find a quiet, calm moment.Â
University Village
University Village is right next to campus and the perfect place to walk, find a snack, and window shop. There will be lots of people around, but it’s a great place to go if you want to get out of the house. It’s a bit of a hike back up to campus, but it’s definitely good exercise!
Through Campus
While there are so many beautiful parks and places to walk around campus, walking through campus is another great option! There are so many places to see. You can walk down to Rainier Vista to see a view of Mount Rainier and Drumheller Fountain. Nearby, you can also find the columns in a secluded field. There’s always the Quad and Red Square to walk to. And you could even walk down to the waterfront near the IMA!
Clearly, there are so many places to explore on and around campus. Make sure to enjoy the upcoming spring weather and get out for a walk!
