If you also felt the absence of a new To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before movie this past February, you’re in luck. TATB author Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, which was published before the Netflix inspiration in 2009, is getting a similar treatment. It was announced that the series would be made into a TV show by Amazon, and The Summer I Turned Pretty’s cast is every book fan’s dream.
Described as a multigenerational, coming-of-age love story that centers on teenager Belly and her love triangle with two brothers, the book touches on the relationships between mothers and their children, love, heartbreak, and the magic of summer. It became an instant hit with Gen Z, even leading to Twilight-esque ship wars – are you team Jeremiah or team Conrad?)
The adaptation will be a co-production between Amazon Studios and wiip, which also produces Apple’s Dickinson, and features eight episodes. Han herself has written the pilot, and is also billed as an executive producer and co-showrunner (so OG book fans can breathe a sigh of relief). Gabrielle Stanton, who worked on some of your other favorite shows like The Flash, Grey’s Anatomy, and Arrow, is also co-showrunner and executive producer. So though there’s no trailer or release date yet, there are plenty of reasons to be excited. Read on to find out who’s playing who in your next binge.
