“Inventing Anna” is one of the most binge worthy shows at the moment and is currently residing in the Netflix top 10. An overall crazy story that also emphasizes the power and importance of journalism while also being somewhat inspiring.
This is on top of showcasing some of the reasons why I initially became a journalist and ultimately some of the reasons why I chose not to pursue it as a major or a career.
And the best part: “this is completely true. Except for the parts that are total bullshit,” as stated several times throughout the show.
I had watched the first episode a few weeks ago before bed one night and then picked it back up and binged the rest of the series in one day, it’s that good.
Having not done any research beforehand, or as I was watching the show, I didn’t even realize how much of the story was actually true until the end when it talked about the outcomes of the real-life characters and seeing the real Anna Delvey’s Instagram account which you can find here.
From her social media accounts and the show, you can see how she ended up succeeding in building an empire, even if it differs from her initial intent.
And now, with even more attention coming her way, one can’t help but wonder what’s going to happen next. With Neff, Rachel, Kacy? With the actual big-name hot shots she had managed to fool? With the Anna Delvey Foundation?
Centering on Anna Delvey, who is actually Anna Sorokin, a fake German heiress and her story, this show took us through a whirlwind of emotions, from initially being annoyed with Anna, to falling in love with her and hoping to see her succeed even though we know it’s not going to happen.
The show seamlessly bounces from the past, telling Anna’s story and exploring her relationship, to the present time (2019) of Vivian writing the story and her case being built and headed for trial.
On top of pure entertainment, this show is motivating and inspiring for women in business, even if it shows a solid way to not go about building one’s career. It is also inspiring for writers and journalists to show what they truly can do and how their words and their work can change the lives of individuals and even the world.
In the wise words of our new favorite influencer, Anna Delvey, “I work for my success. I earn my accomplishments. Pay attention, maybe you’ll learn how to be smart like me. I doubt it, but you can dream.” – From Netflix’s “Inventing Anna.”
