As the new seasons begin many people are looking for a refresh on the music that they are listening to. I know personally, I had this experience a few years ago, when I had a friend who made me a playlist of new music to get into. Out of that time, there was one band that stuck and has over the years grown to become my favorite, The Arctic Monkeys.
Who are the Arctic Monkeys? Well, they are an indie rock band based out of England that formed in 2002. Their music tends to be more eclectic, epically with their older music. The group had produced many albums but went on a Hiatus from 2013 to 2018, and there are rumors that they are returning soon with new music.
Now since you have an introduction to the group here are 5 songs that I would recommend for anyone who is interested in listening to Arctic Monkeys for the first time:
5. Black treacle from Suck it and See
I was tempted to put the song 505 as the number five but if you are getting into the Arctic Monkeys then that is the song that you usually start with. Black Treacle has a little different sound than 505, there is a heavy influence of the electric guitar, epically at the beginning of the song. When I put on this song, I find myself singing along and jamming out with the music. This song is one of my favorites not for a specific reason, but the vibes of the song are immaculate.
4. Florescent Adolescence from Favorite Worst Nightmare
This song is just so fun and groovy. It has this contrast talking about being younger and doing things that were frowned upon, and the beat of the song which is very upbeat. This is something that you can turn on and just vibe to, rather than focusing too much on the words.
3. All My Own Stunts from Suck It and See
Unlike the previous song, it is less upbeat but there is almost a wave-like sound that I like from this song. The drums in this song also hold a spotlight in comparison to other songs. This song does really encapsulate one of the reasons why I love the Arctic Monkeys, each of their songs is very different. This song has components that are like others but each of the songs has its own sound.
2. My Propeller from Humbug
This song for me was a newer find, but it really encapsulates Arctic Monkeys for me as a sound. There is just something about it, it may be the strong base or the general beat of the song, but I really enjoy it. It just seems so smooth, and it scratches the right part of my brain. If you are looking for a song with eerie tones, then this one is for you.
1. Old Yellow Bricks from Favorite Worst Nightmare
From the day that I started listening to the Arctic Monkeys, this song has always been my favorite. It meshes my two favorite kinds of artic monkeys’ music, to create this song that is dynamic and fun but also has so much bass and drum. There is a, instrumental section a little more than halfway through and it is one of the things that makes it my favorite. If you are going to start listening to the Arctic Monkeys this is the song I recommend you start with.
