Yitty: A Brand By Lizzo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

A few days ago, Lizzo announced on Instagram her new shapewear brand Yitty, which has been 5 years in the making. “This is a love letter to my big grrrls, and a welcome letter to Every Body,” she wrote in the announcement. Yitty will feature shapewear  ranging in sizes from 6X to XS. “This is *not* an invitation to change who you are… this is an opportunity to BE who you are on your term,” Lizzo elaborated. She expressed how she’s sick of people telling her how to look and that she needs to fit a certain standard. “Yitty isn’t just shapewear, it’s your chance to reclaim your body and redefine your beauty standard.”

Lizzo has truly been working hard. From an upcoming album (with a new single “About Damn Time” being released on April 14th), a new special on Amazon Prime “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” and now a shapewear line, Lizzo is becoming unstoppable. From what I have been seeing, many are wondering if it will be successful against companies like Skims, Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand, but I think it’ll be successful. Yitty is catering to an audience that is often excluded from these types of brands. It’s not just about the quality of the clothes, but the message that’s being sold with them. “I’m selling a mentality that ‘I can do what I want with my body, wear what I want and feel good while doing it,” Lizzo told The New York Times. “That whatever body you are showing off, it’s not, ‘Oh, how brave,’” she continued, “No. No more of that. Nothing to see here but a body, just like your body.”

Yitty will be launched with three collections; “Nearly Naked,” which will include seamless shaping garments, “Mesh Me,” shapewear that can be worn as outer or underwear, and “Major Label,” which consists of your everyday clothing such as leggings, bras, shorts, etc. According to Vanity Fair, over 65% of the styles are made with recycled fibers and the packaging is made out of 100% recycled material. It is also reported that the shapewear will come in a variety of colors including “Tempo Lavender” an “Moody Bitch.”

Yitty launched on Tuesday, April 12 at 8 AM PST. You can sign up to receive updates on the official drop on the website.
