Where to Work This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Alabama chapter.

Summer is almost here, and now is the perfect time to plan where to make the most cash this break. Luckily, many chains have increased their hourly pay in the past few years. Here are seven great places to think about working at to make some money for the upcoming school year.

Ulta

We all love Ulta. Besides having great deals and selling Fenty makeup now, they pay their employees well. The average starting pay at Ulta is $16 an hour. You can apply to work at one of their gorgeous stores here!

Target

From groceries to Olivia Rodrigo t-shirts, Target’s got it all. Additionally, their pay is impressive. Starting hourly pay at Target ranges from $14-24 per hour. We’re all interested in that kind of cash, and you can apply for a job at Target here.

Walgreens

Walgreens are often conveniently located, and if you wanted to work during the school year, there’s one right next to campus. Starting pay is about $15 an hour, and you can apply here.

Best Buy

Best Buy also pays new employees $15 an hour and has great overtime and holiday pay ($23 an hour). Apply to work at Best Buy here!

Chipotle

Chipotle is super yummy and pays well. You can make $12 to $13 an hour, which is not too shabby. You can apply on their website here.

starbucks

Starbucks are everywhere, and if you work at one near your house over the summer, you could transfer to a very convenient on-campus job next semester. Average pay for new employees is $11 an hour. You can apply right here.

Walmart

Work at Walmart and make an average of $12 an hour. Apply here!

These chains pay well and seem committed to employee satisfaction. While you’re thinking about which one to pick, or even if none of them are appealing, think about working at a chain that also has locations in Tuscaloosa. That way, you could transfer to a part-time job in the fall. Wherever you choose, take the opportunity to build your bank account this summer!
