Pearls, corselets, ties, ruffles, and a bunch of elegance are the perfect words to describe the long-awaited Metropolitan Museum’s annual fashion exhibition: the Met Gala. Taking place on the first Monday in May since 2001 in New York, the global interest event brought the golden soul of celebrities to the fore. Literally. That’s because of the theme: “Gilded Glamour, White Tie”.
The event that happens to raise funds for the Costume Institute brought outfits that referenced the period from 1870 to 1900, in the USA. The country expanded the ceremony after its civil war, going through an industrialization that yielded voluminous fortunes to part of the population. This richness is seen in the looks made with the face of the highest couture, with the use of noble materials, glamorous details, and excessive ostentation. And it was no different on the catwalk of the Met Gala, where celebrities were present with extravagant and dazzling looks.
It is worth mentioning that this year’s theme was also named “In America: An anthology of fashion”, as it was a continuation of the event that took place the previous year, entitled “In America: A lexicon of fashion”, in which the focus was on American fashion history.
So, if you’re always following the trends, it’s time to feel part of this chic intimate dinner and enjoy 12 unforgettable looks from the Met Gala 2022.
- Blake Lively
-
I don’t think there are enough words to explain how marvelous and glamorous Blake Lively was on the Met Gala catwalk. It is a fact that the actress never disappoints in her looks at the event, but this year, there is no doubt that she was *the* event. She has definitely incorporated the Met Gala into her dress. The Versace look worn by Blake is a tribute to the Statue of Liberty, and she lived up to this representation, especially at the moment of transformation, when her copper dress becomes a teal color, symbolizing the oxidation of the monument. You can’t help but be moved by the beauty of Blake’s look, meaning and incomparable elegance.
- Sarah Jessica Parker
-
Our eternal Carrie Bradshaw follows her fashion legacy at this year’s Met Gala, wearing a Christopher John Rogers costume, mixing neutral shades of black, white and gray, with exposed shoulders, which lend a sensual and charming vibe to the look. Her stunning dress is a tribute to Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley, the White House’s first black fashion designer.
The hat is a portrait of America’s golden years, because honestly, there’s no way to bring more grace than with “The veil inspired by the opulence and decadence of the Gilded Age”, as the responsible designer Philip Treacy puts it.
- LIZZO
-
If it’s not to come rocking, she won’t even go! The singer Lizzo walked the runway in a Thom Browne outfit, designed by Jason Rembert. The black background of the dress embellished with golden floral arrangements on the cover print (which took more than 22,000 hours to make!) is the newest synonym of power and glamour. To complement her triumphant entrance, the singer, loaded with style, even played the flute on the carpet.
- Kim Kardashian
-
Kim Kardashian took us straight to 1962, on the 45th birthday of the current president, John F. Keneddy, wearing the original dress worn by the iconic Marilyn Monroe on the date. The original dress in the mermaid model was made in a nude tone and is covered with sparkles. The fashion icon took the idea of using the iconic piece to the letter, to the point that she had to go on a strict diet to fit the silhouette to the measurements of the Hollywood actress. And the effort was worth it because, in addition to a return to the past, Kim brought the essence of the theme to the carpet of the Met Gala.
- gigi hadid
-
When we talk about elegance, it’s impossible not to mention the color red, and Gigi Hadid knows it very well! The model wore an extremely voluminous Versace, representing the extravagance of the time. The corset was also a key part of her look, paired with latex pants and high red boots. Definitely a fashion icon.
- anitta
-
Get ready because our “Girl From Rio” is coming! Anitta showed her presence at the Met Gala with a long purple dress designed by Jeremy Scott, by Moschino. And the singer did not forget the theme at any time, because pearls from “Gilded Glamour” were not lacking in her look – on the earrings, on the neck and even on the sleeves. She knows that she never fails in style and her elegance at this Met Gala is proof of that!
- Vanessa hudgens
-
Did someone ask for transparency? Or an all-black look? Well, Vanessa Hudgens delivered them both in her divine Moschino dress. Sensual, dramatic, revealing…there are so many adjectives for the look that they don’t fit in a single article. The naked dress with puff sleeves and a high neckline redefined the concept of sexy. As if that weren’t enough, embroidered lace, a long train and a pair of Jimmy Choo sandals make the look even more phenomenal (if that’s possible).
- Alicia Keys
-
The singer took the concept of “Empire State of Mind” seriously in her look! Alicia walked the Met Gala carpet in a glittery all-black outfit, but with a surprisingly stunning “detail”: the silhouette of NY on her cover, made with no less than 30,000 crystals. Ralph Lauren certainly represented the “concrete jungle where dreams are made of”.
- Billie Eilish
-
Inspired by John Singer Sargent’s 1885 portrait of Madame Poirson, Billie Eilish definitely got the job done in her stunning Gucci dress. The outfit was crafted in ivory and duchesse satin, bringing elegance with a green lace-based corset. And as if the style wasn’t enough, the singer is still committed to sustainability, as her dress was made entirely from recycled material.
- HUGH JACKMAN
-
To end this list, I couldn’t miss one of the most elegant men’s looks at the Met Gala. And that position is in the hands of Australian Hugh Jackman, who wore a Tom Ford suit with tails and a white bow tie. If that’s not the look of the all-conquering heartthrob of America’s golden years, then I don’t know what is.
