Catherine Rydland

CU Boulder '24

Catherine is a new contributing writer to Her Campus this semester. As a sophomore, she is pursuing a dual major in neuroscience and molecular biology and a minor in philosophy. She currently works in an Alzheimer's laboratory at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, where she enjoys learning all she can about biology and the brain.

While Catherine adores science, she’s had a passion for writing from the time she could read stories. Since then you will rarely find her without a book on hand, from sci-fi to romance or a cozy collection of poetry. Two of her current favorite novels are “This is How You Lose the Time War” by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, and “Neverwhere” by Neil Gaiman. She enjoys all forms of writing but favors creative writing, and hopes to be an author outside of a career in neurological research. In addition to science and books, Catherine is invested in environmental activism, and feminism, and looks to incorporate these topics into her articles.

In her spare time, Catherine likes listening to music, thrifting, or aimlessly wandering the Boulder Bookstore. With an immense love for the outdoors, you can also find her rock climbing, hiking, and looking for ski buddies. Catherine currently enjoys matcha lattes but is experimenting with at-home loose-leaf tea. She is enthusiastic about road trips, and afternoon naps, and will look for any excuse to take a very long walk.
