Madelyn is a second-year pre-PA major from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and is excited to write some new articles for Her Campus at Thomas Jefferson University. After PA school, she hopes to work in pediatrics and possibly specialize further in oncology or neurology. She has worked as a physical therapy aide for two years and is a certified nursing assistant. Since her elementary science classes, she has always been fascinated by the inner workings of the human body on a cellular level and looks forward to studying advanced physiology in her classes.
Outside of class, Madelyn is a member of the biology society and the fencing team. Back home, she volunteers at a small church by providing childcare during Bible studies and improving pediatric first aid training for other church volunteers. She has also been babysitting since middle school and tutoring since high school. These experiences led her down the path of developmental psychology, which has helped her understand the children she works with on a deeper level, and she hopes it will continue to help her as a pediatric provider.
In addition to her role as a future clinician, Madelyn is no stranger to her role as a patient. While managing a chronic illness, she knows how difficult it can be to feel seen and informed in a doctor’s office. She hopes to use her writing to empower others, especially women, to advocate for their own health and feel empowered in their medical decisions.
