Yasmin Nunez

I am Yasmin Nunez. I was born in Denton Texas, my family is originally from a small community called Puruagua, Guanajuato. I'm a young writer strengthened by many other Latino authors like Reyna Grande, although my inspiration comes from the cornfields and the land of my ancestors, where my family sustains, and has worked throughout years. I carry with me the suffering and agriculture in my bloodline, which are worthy to be transformed into beautiful written poems that transcend the homeland of “los hijos del maiz” for our misfortunes to be heard. Through writing I hope to express motivation, because I want to convoke souls who unite to one voice for the cause, in the thousands of stories I share to a broad audience who struggle with identity. The poems are written honorably for minorities, not necessarily just Hispanics, that have come to the U.S looking for a better life,yet they find themselves trapped in the hands of the “land of the dreams”. I want to keep spreading “with my cornfield" messages, that commemorate many of our ancestors who are “now deceased”; with the beauty of their language, that was once silenced. I want to transcendentalize barriers with our Mexican-American colloquialism because; we're all special and unique, and merely have a purpose to overcome indifference. And to feel special we have to revive our identity, true culture, language and values, not through a society that lives in the shadows, fearful to speak up. I want to change that, to prioritize “ I feel proud of who I am”.
