Chloe Kim just wowed us all by winning the gold medal in PyeongChang for the Olympic halfpipe. Obvi this is something that very few 17-year-olds can accomplish, but don’t be fooled. Kim is just like every other teenager (just add a gold medal).
Apparently, the only thing keeping her from crying after winning the gold medal was her eyeliner. She told the Today show, “I was trying so hard to hold the tears back because I was like ‘I can’t cry right now. I can’t do this. I worked so hard on my eyeliner.'”
If we were winning gold medals in the Olympics (we can dream right?) that would probably be our reaction too. Like, who would want to have mascara running down their eyes on national TV? Totally understandable.
Kim has set the standard for probably the most relatable Olympic athlete, and to be honest we kind of want to be her best friend. Not only is she a super badass snowboarder, but she’s actually a normal human like the rest of us? Sign us up.
Kim later added in the interview, “It’s such an honor to just represent the U.S. in the country where my parents emigrated from. Just this whole process has been amazing, and this journey has been so fun and full of so many memories that I will hold on to for the rest of my life.” We hear you Kim, we love you, and we’re proud of you. Please keep being amazing.
