The year is winding down and college (or your next year of college) is just around the corner. The next few weeks hold lots of fun activities, and we know you don’t have a ton of free time, so Her Campus has found 15 scholarships you can check out right now! Apply for these scholarships in between enjoying the last weeks of your year. Some of these are due in early May, while others have deadlines through the end of August. It’s not too late to earn some more scholarship money for college!

5. Shop Smart Scholarship

Are you the gal hosting Girls’ Night Ins? Do you shop at thrift stores or consignment shops to save money? Can you stretch a dollar farther than anyone you know? Check out this scholarship, which seeks to reward a student who is creative when it comes to being thrifty. Write a 500-word essay describing your efforts to be frugal and you could win $2000.

It’s time to put all your English classes to good use! The John Gyles Education Award asks you to read one of the books on their book list, write up a 1500 word report, and submit an application to be eligible to receive this award.

Love making up stories? Try your hand at this scholarship. Your job is to write 500 – 1000 words on this prompt: “In 200 years, one of your relatives is going to be digging in what is now your backyard. They are going to find something that you buried in 2012, and it is going to put any financial worries they have to rest. Your job today is to decide what to bury. Your goal is to find something that will have immense value in the future.”

Do you have a blog? Do you have an opinion about the upcoming presidential election? If you answered yes to these questions, this scholarship is for you! In at least 300 words, talk about which presidential candidate has your vote and why. Post it on your blog and submit the link to YourLocalSecurity.com, and you are well on your way to being $1000 richer.

Pull out that short story you’ve been working on. The L. Rob Hubbard Writers of the Future contest is open to new and amateur science fiction and fantasy writers. As long as your story is not yet published (if it’s published online, it cannot have more than 5,000 hits)—and fewer than 17,000 words—you are eligible to win $1000.
