Career development is an important part of many college students’ lives, and HBCU students will now have a unique opportunity to not only develop their career skills, but also be part of a supportive program. If you’re a student at a historically Black college or university (HBCU) interested in career readiness and leadership, and are passionate about creating an empowering community, then Boss Women has the perfect opportunity for you.
Boss Women Media is an organization that helps Black and Brown women achieve their goals. Boss Women’s college women community, Ambitious Girl, is going on tour to HBCUs this fall with guest speakers, live music, and the chance to win $5,000.
Ambitious Girl is bringing “The Ultimate Study Break Experience” to four HBCUs this October: Winston-Salem State University on Oct. 4, North Carolina A&T University on Oct. 5, Texas Southern University on Oct. 18, and Prairie View A&M University on Oct. 19. The four-hour event on each campus will include live internship interviews, mentor sessions, music from a DJ, giveaways, and more.
Corporations including Cash App and Intuit have partnered with this year’s tour. In a press release, Robyn Hines, Early Careers Lead at Cash App, shared, “Talent is equally distributed, but career opportunities are often not. This is why we prioritize showing up on HBCU campuses to connect with students and to help create equitable career paths to Cash App.”
Humera Malik Shahid, Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Talented Director at Intuit, added, “According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Black women are the most educated group in the US compared to any other demographic and are a fast-growing group of entrepreneurs. It is important that they feel supported.”
The tour is also offering a chance to win a $5,000 grant. Ambitious Girl has teamed up with Morgan Stanley to award $5,000 to a student who wants to propel their business forward. All you need to do is fill out the pitch form and tell them about your business to be considered. In order to be eligible, you need to be a registered attendee of the tour, a legal U.S. resident, and at least 18-years-old. The full eligibility requirements are listed in the submission form.
If you’re a student at any of the HBCUs Ambitious Girl will be visiting, be sure to RSVP for an amazing event.
