Apartment Guide: Maximizing Space on a Budget Blogger Challenge!

For me, the beginning of the school year always means that it’s that time again to transform a generic dorm room into my own personal space. I’ve found that one way of doing this involves making countless trips to Target and Bed, Bath, & Beyond while the other means bringing as much as humanly possible from home (well, what will fit into my suitcase…). This year, I decided to take the middle road and do a fair amount of shopping but also use personal mementos to individualize my room.

At first, I was at a loss of where to start. Should I hang things from my walls? If I decide to do so, should I put up pictures or posters? What about the bathroom? How do you decorate a bathroom anyways? Needless to say, Apartment Guide and their wealth of information/tips came to the rescue! Their Maximizing Space on a Budget Blogger Challenge seemed like something right up my alley. Here are some key tips I found on ApartmentGuide.com and some photos showing just how I utilized them in my new dorm:

1. Decorative accents can do wonders for a room (especially a dorm room). Whether this means buying matching pillows or hanging posters, you really cannot go wrong! Be careful not to go overboard though; you don’t want a room that is too overwhelming.

2. The kitchen table is important, especially if you have roommates (I have five!). Throughout the day, I barely see my roommates due to classes, clubs, and internships but we always get to see each other around dinner time. In our apartment, we decided to go bold with brightly colored place mats and a neon pink center tray. You can even see our fish, Gideon, in the picture!

3. Don’t forget about the bathroom! Before moving in, my roommates and I decided on a jungle-themed bathroom complete with monkey rug and hippo poster. There are so many options for customizing your bathroom whether through towels, shower curtains, or smaller accessories.

There you have it! Just a few key decorations can drastically change any room. Be sure to check out Apartment Guide for more budget-friendly decor ideas.
