Here’s How To Boost Your Resume For The New Year

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from my job search this year, it’s the importance of having a strong resume. With 2021 just around the corner, now is the perfect time to review your resume and make sure it’s clear, professional, and representative of your hard work. With many companies hiring for jobs in the new year, a new resume will help you feel confident and ready to land your next big role.

Format your resume

First, make sure your resume is well-organized with clear sections, headings, and bullet points. There’s nothing trickier than sifting through a wordy resume, and employers should be able to get an easy snapshot of your background at a quick glance. Eliminate clutter, use legible fonts, and keep descriptions simple and easy to understand. You may even opt for a custom resume design or template to make your application look sleek and professional.

Showcase your accomplishments

It’s a challenging time to enter the workforce, and standing out in a sea of applicants is more important than ever. Generation Hired presented by Neutrogena® is here to help you navigate the journey with a user-friendly platform for showcasing your unique achievements. After uploading your impressive resume to the platform, Generation Hired provides a space for you to elaborate on your experiences in detail and even express your personality through engaging short answer questions. Navigating the entry-level world right now can be tough, but Generation Hired and Neutrogena® are here to help you feel confident during the job search and land an amazing role.

Include strong references

There’s only so much you can capture about yourself on a resume, so, if you have the space,  add strong references who can speak to your hard work and unique skills. Consider advisors or professors who would be willing to vouch for you, and ask if you can include their information with your job application. As you’re going through the interview process, a glowing review from a professor or mentor just might be the extra boost you need to land the job.

Keep your resume drafts organized

As you’re applying for jobs, keep a desktop folder with all of your past resumes included. This will keep your materials organized and help streamline things when you’re applying for many jobs at once. When you’re ready to apply, don’t forget to have someone look over your resume before sending it off to a hiring manager. Double-check for any typos or formatting issues, and be sure to save the file with your name and the position in the title. Then, pair your resume with a strong cover letter and you’re good to go!

These tips will make your hiring manager’s life a lot easier, and when they open your application to find your stellar resume, they’ll have no choice but to call you for an interview.
