Imagine a place where Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube combine forces, creating a social network exclusively about beauty products.
Well ladies I’m excited to announce that this past Wednesday, Sephora released the beta version of Beauty Talk, an interactive social network under the Beauty Advice tab on Sephora.com.
The Beauty Talk community merges advice and feedback about products from both professionals and real-women. Users can trade tips on discussion boards, ask questions to online experts, watch video tutorials from the Sephora Pro Team, get tips from celebrities, and read relevant articles from Sephora’s blog, Beauty and the Blog.
Women can also create usernames and have their own profile page on Beauty Talk. You can upload a picture of yourself, write a short bio, list your top 10 products, and “friend” other Beauty Talk users. There are also a few celebrities on Beauty Talk who have their own profiles. Below you can see Kat Von D’s list of favorite products.
I personally think that Beauty Talk is a great idea. What a great way for makeup mavens like myself to get together and discuss our favorite products! However, I do have a few personal qualms with the site.
First I found it difficult to navigate. It took me about five minutes to actually figure out how to register and make a profile. Then after writing my bio and listing my favorite products I could not for the life of me figure out how to upload a profile picture! This was extremely discouraging because I consider myself a pretty tech-savvy girl. After that, I kind of gave up on developing my profile because overall it was confusing. I think I’m going to go back once they develop the site more and fix some of the glitches. I have faith in them, though. I’m definitely going to be following Beauty Talk in the news.
So what do you ladies think? Will you be joining the Beauty Talk network? Is a social network devoted 100% to beauty actually needed? Let me know!
