22 Things You Never Noticed Until Binge-Watching ‘The Mindy Project’

Ever since The Mindy Project was canceled *insert crying emoji* and then picked up by Hulu *insert praise hands emoji*, we’ve been dying for new episodes. But every faithful TV fan knows that the ideal way to wait out an excruciatingly long summer hiatus is to binge on all the past episodes you can get your hands on. Re-watching the first three seasons of TMP on Hulu, we realized these 22 things we’d never noticed before.

1. Danny and Mindy REALLY hated each other

This OTP was not very nice to each other when the show began. In fact, it’s hard to see how they got to their current lovey-dovey status. Thankfully they didn’t lose their snarky banter along the way.

2. Mindy’s ex-boyfriends are legit available, and we’d like them to call us

Okay, so some were total duds. But many of Mindy’s previous conquests (almost) make us sad she settled down. Our favorites of her totes dateable fellas—in no particular order: uppity midwife Brendan Deslaurier, When Harry Met Sally archetype Jamie, Officer Charlie, charming druggie Josh, dream guy that works down the hall Cliff, and of course, Pastor Casey.

3. Mindy used to have lady pals

and one of them was Pitch Perfect‘s Anna Camp! What a shame that the show couldn’t find a way to make Mindy’s loads of female besties mirror the hilarious friendships she has with Peter, Danny, and Morgan.

4. Jeremy could’ve been Mindy’s endgame guy

For those of you who have chosen to repress this disturbing memory, Jeremy and Mindy were romantically linked in the series’ first season. Yeah, we know, weird. Now he’s just another of Mindy’s weirdo coworkers but never forget he could’ve been her baby daddy.

5. There’ve been a serious amount of Office cameos

Ellie Kemper as Mindy’s boyfriend’s other girlfriend turned cuckoo neighbor. Ed Helms as Mindy’s on-again, off-again love interest. B.J. Novak as her loveable but not quite right boyfriend, Jamie. Who else is waiting for the day Steve Carell pops up?

6. Beverly is the world’s worst at whatever her job is

We’re still not sure what it is Beverly does, and she probably doesn’t know either. But she’s good for some laughs, and there’s always that one time she punched Mindy in the face.

7. We want literally everything in Mindy’s closet

Mindy has a flawless outfit for every occasion, whether it be the baseball tee and sequin skirt she wore to “meet” Danny after he catfished her or the fab LGD she donned at last season’s holiday party.

8. Dr. Shulman was actually on this show at some point

He’s not just the namesake of the doctors’ practice. He was a real person in the TMP universe and appeared in a whopping two episodes.

9. Romantic things always happen on airplanes

That Mindy/Danny airplane kiss will go down in TV history, but before there was a smooch, it was all about a sexy turbulence-prompted hand grab.

10. Dancing Dan is the Danny who stole our hearts

We were already head over heels for Danny Castellano, but his Secret Santa gift to Mindy—that shameless dance to Aaliyah’s “Try Again”—had us swooning. That’s when we knew he could never do any wrong.

11. Betsy and Shauna straight up disappeared

Shulman and Associates’ secretaries both left with no warning or explanation. We must not have cared too much at the time since it took a re-watch to remind us.

12. Peter is kind of the best friend Mindy’s ever had

None of Mindy’s friends ever quite got her like Peter did. From the moment he arrived, they hit it off because we think they’re basically the same person. Why did he have to go?

13. Committed relationships top will-they-or-won’t-they pairs

Mindy and Danny were a will-they-or-won’t they couple for roughly two seasons, but once they got together for real, they were solid. And they haven’t lost our interest since. We’ll happily compare them to Friends’ best pair Monica and Chandler—YES, we went there—any day.

14. Tamra reads our minds, like, constantly

Tamra tells it like it is with no apologies. We can definitely count on her to say exactly what we’re thinking.

15. The early Mindy + Danny coupledom episodes play like the perfect rom com

What began with an airplane makeout and ended atop the Empire State Building—with another makeout!—is a mini romantic comedy that we found ourselves watching over and over again. Those eight episodes are magic and prove Mindy’s undeniable Nora Ephron descendent status.

16. TMP’s got THE guest stars

Anybody can get James Franco, Chrissy Teigen, Kris Jenner, Laverne Cox, Bill Hader, and Maria Menounos to guest on their show. But only Mindy can get Cher’s dad from Clueless to play Danny’s old man.

17. Mindy might not be cut out for this motherhood thing

So far Mindy’s not shown a great track record with the kiddos. Hopefully, she’ll just figure it out as she goes—to laugh-inducing effect, no doubt.

18. Morgan got hot

When Morgan came to work for Mindy and company, he was just a schlubby ex-con with an odd sense of humor. How shocked were we to see his transformation over the course of three seasons? Ladies, we’re here to tell you—Morgan’s body be banging!

19. Danny is Mindy Lahiri’s B.J. Novak

We’ve witnessed the chemistry between Mindy Kaling and her BFF/Office costar B.J. Novak for years. So why did it take us this long to realize Danny is Mindy Lahiri’s B.J.? Except Mindy and Danny seem to have a head-start on their happy ending.

20. Mindy has become a total #girlboss

Earlier in the show’s run, Mindy was rarely even spotted in scrubs. Coming into season four, she’s got her own fertility clinic and is expanding her family. Talk about breaking that glass ceiling!

21. These characters are weird AF

All workplace comedies have their fair share of wacky happenings, but just about everyone—no, make that everyone—in this office is insane. We guess that’s why we love ‘em.

22. We seriously can’t even wait for new episodes on Hulu!

How many days until the premiere?
