Moments of pure joy that humble us to our very core are rare at awards shows filled with Hollywood royalty that’s all too familiar with these types of events. But Uzo Aduba’s acceptance speech after winning Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Crazy Eyes on Orange is the New Black made us feel all the feels.
1. She showed just how much she deserves it.
We know her work warrants this win, but when an actress can put the glitz and glam aside to truly relish in the people who surround her, it proves her even more worthy. How can you not be happy for a woman who is this elated and grateful for her Emmy? We think Uzo just singlehandedly humanized this event, so thanks for that.
2. She tearfully thanked her sister.
Okay, now we wish we were Uzo’s sister, too. She took the time to thank her sister, who was sitting in the audience crying right along with her. And we could feel the love through our TV screens. Seriously, that’s how strong it was.
3. She made us just want to be ourselves.
In the most perfect moment that has happened maybe ever, Uzo thanked her team because in her words, “You let me be me.” We’re not crying. You’re crying.
4. This wasn’t even her first win.
Lots of celebs act this gracious when they pick up their first statue, but Uzo previously won the Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy for the same role. The second time around she’s just as moved, and we think we’re in love.
Were you as touched by Uzo’s acceptance speech as we were, collegiettes?
