This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month, it’s important to recognize that climate change disproportionately affects communities of color. A 2017 study published in Social Science & Medicine showed that neighborhoods with greater proportions of Chinese, Korean, and South Asian Americans were at increased risk of living near hazardous air pollutants. As Americans continue to fight climate change on all levels, who better to learn from than young AAPI climate activists themselves?
A powerful force of change is emerging from the Asian American and Pacific Islander youth community. Passionate, motivated, and dedicated, these five AAPI youth climate activists are making waves in the fight against climate change. Their voices are ringing loud and clear, inspiring others to take action, and proving that age is no barrier to effecting meaningful change. From innovative solutions to grassroots movements, here are some incredible AAPI youth climate activists who are reshaping the landscape of environmental activism and paving the way for a sustainable future.
