Actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who is known for his roles as superhero Doctor Strange in the Marvel universe and crime-fighter and sleuth Sherlock Holmes, is now being hailed as a hero for rescuing a delivery cyclist from muggers in London, The Huffington Post reports.
According to CNN, the actor jumped out of his Uber cab to come to the aid of a delivery cyclist for the company Deliveroo who was being attacked by muggers.
The cyclist was making a delivery when four men jumped him and punched him in an attempt to steal his bicycle, London’s Metropolitan Police said.
According to British newspaper The Sun, Cumberbatch jumped out of the Uber ride and began pulling the attackers off of the cyclist and shouted to “leave [the cyclist] alone.”
CNN reports that the attackers left without taking anything and the cyclist did not require any medical assistance.
“The cyclist was lucky, Benedict’s a superhero,” Cumberbatch’s Uber driver, Manuel Dias, told The Sun. “Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured.”
