After revealing her sexuality through an honest and heartfelt story about falling in love with a female and embracing her identity, Alyson Stoner has made it clear that she is who she is and she’s more than cool with it. This confidence is evident in her new track “Who Do You Love,” which now has a powerful new video to go with it.
With a blue and red color scheme, and black background, the concept is really neat. And if you feel like you’re supposed to have 3D glasses on while watching, you’re not crazy. According to Access Hollywood, the video uses anaglyph technology to tell three different stories, so with 3D glasses, fans can get the full effect. Damn, I wish I had some glasses to test it out.
Alyson shows off her amazing dance moves that we’re all familiar with (hello, Camp Rock and Step Up!) and totally rocks it from start to finish. The lyrics preach about accepting yourself and how people will start to act like they’re there for you once you find your confidence, but she’s fine on her own. Get it, girl. It’s so true.
Alyson also reflected on her coming out story and how it felt to be fully honest with herself and the world in an interview with Seventeen. “It was very cathartic. I had lived and relived these stories in my head for years, and I was finally setting them free, I was letting go of being ashamed,” she said. “I was sticking up for a new definition of love and compassion and transparency that I hadn’t really walked in before.” Yes!
“But be kind to yourself and know that there’s nothing wrong with you,” she continued. “I promise you you’re not the first one to go through what you’re going through.”
I’m stoked for Alyson on this song, video and her confidence. It takes courage to own and accept who you are and I applaud her for being loud and proud. Way to go, girl, you’re a total role model.
