Nearly a year after the revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life dropped on Netflix, there haven’t exactly been many good signs of a second revival season happening. Despite the original season’s massive cliffhanger, Lauren Graham recently hinted that she was over acting, while Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino signed a multi-year deal with Amazon Studios involving her new series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. However, in a move proving that she’ll forever keep us on our toes, Sherman-Palladino just teased that she definitely has the freedom to create another Gilmore Girls season. Can’t we just get a definite yes or no about this, ASP?Â
Cosmopolitan reports that in an interview with RadioTimes.com, Sherman-Palladino suggested that she and husband Daniel Palladino could turn to Amazon if they wanted to produce another revival season. “We carved out a little niche for ourselves with Amazon saying that if we ever want to do it, if the girls and us get together and we have a concept that works, then we have the freedom to do it,” she said.Â
So she’d totally disregard consistency and do another season on a completely different streaming platform? Well, if it means answers about that situation of Rory’s, I’m down.
“It would just have to be the right circumstances, and that we’re all sort of in the same drunken mood together to go repaint Stars Hollow again,” Sherman-Palladino said. “Because we had to repaint Stars Hollow, and we’ll have to repaint it again. But it’s definitely possible.”
In case you were worried that all of the vagueness about a second season is because she didn’t enjoy doing the original season, that’s not the case. “We feel great about it,” Sherman-Palladino said of bringing back the show. “We really enjoyed it, we enjoyed the experience very much and it had a whole different feel than the [original] series did.”
Given the amount of back-and-forth speculation in the past year, I’m convinced we’re never going to get a solid answer about Gilmore Girls returning. Here’s to binge-watching old episodes to get over this uncertainty.Â
