From slinging webs in The Amazing Spider-Man to singing in Tick, Tick… Boom!, Andrew Garfield is a man of many talents. He’s recently added making Gen Z swoon to his skillset. While it’s been 17 years since he made his on-screen debut in the UK teen series Sugar Rush, the internet is currently celebrating an Andrew Garfield renaissance, with users across TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram all succumbing to the hype. It may have taken nearly two decades for Garfield’s introduction to the bulk of Gen Z to take place, but you know what they say: better late than never.
2021 was a big year for Garfield. Between Tick, Tick… Boom!, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, he’s certainly kept himself busy. With plenty of press stops for his numerous projects, his appearances have allowed new fans to get a glimpse of Garfield’s personality, charming many new fans and further endearing old ones. To the internet’s delight, this press tour included a stop on Buzzfeed’s Thirst Tweets series, in which celebrities read, well, thirst tweets about themselves (for example, “95% of the reason I love spiderman is because of Andrew Garfield’s butt in that suit. 😍”).
Besides his fantastic personality and impressive acting creds (he won a casual Golden Globe in 2022, NBD), Garfield is also into astrology. The actor has his birth chart memorized (Leo sun, Pisces rising, and Aquarius moon, for those curious) and has brought up his astrological sign in multiple interviews. It’s no secret that Gen Z LOVES astrology, and Garfield being well-versed in the star signs makes him all the more attractive, especially for all of the astrology girlies.
And just when you think he can’t possibly get any better, Garfield is not only a tote bag user but also a reader. Celebrities, they’re just like us! “Proof that hot men read books,” one fan commented. Another TikToker even analyzed which titles he was photographed carrying, and they’re all incredibly intimidating. Somehow that generates even more heart eyes. “He’s so pretentious God it’s hot,” one comment reads.
To top it all off, the man can skateboard. That’s right, Andrew Garfield is a sk8er boi. Dare I say, the sk8er boi. For reasons largely unknown, skater boys seem to be everyone’s type. Something about the aesthetic appeals to Gen Z; whether it be the music taste, chill attitude, nice hair, or good style, Avril Lavigne was truly ahead of her time. As evidenced by Edward Cullen (Twilight) and Stefan Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries), we love an emo, broody boy.
Even though we missed the 2012 boat for Andrew Garfield (to be fair, we were in middle school), Gen Z is here now. With his British accent, astrological knowledge, humor, literary interest, and skateboarding skills, Garfield has found a surprising but solid fan base in Gen Z. It truly seems that the only thing he can’t do is catch Gwen Stacy.
