On Oct. 24, Marvel dropped the first trailer for their highly-anticipated film, Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantunmania, and fans are freaking out on social media. It’s been three years since we’ve last seen Ant-Man on our screens in Avengers: Endgame (2019), and a *lot* has changed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since then. The upcoming film will be the third installment of the Ant-Man series, officially kicking off Phase Five of the MCU.
According to Marvel’s official website, the film follows superhero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) as they return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was ever possible. (Sounds like a Marvel movie to me!)
Marvel’s popular villain, Kang the Conqueror, who was a fan-favorite on the Disney + show Loki, will also have a key role in this film, continuing the multiverse saga. Fans have been racing to share their theories of what they think his purpose will be in the film since we last saw him in the eventful Season 1 finale of Loki. Fans also quickly noted that the actress of Scott’s daughter, Cassie Lang, has been replaced again after her brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame (2019). So far, the character has had three actresses since the first movie. Fans believe Cassie’s role as Stinger in this film will be important to the beginning of the Young Avengers, which has been teased throughout Phase 4 of the MCU. ICYMI, the Young Avengers are a team of super-powered youths with connections to existing Avengers.
Many believe this new Ant-Man movie could also possibly be teasing the anticipated return of The Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff, who we last saw in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But some fans’ only concern of this film was their disapproval of Hope Van Dyke’s new look as the Wasp. Others joked how the movie seems to sort of resemble the iconic Sky Kids movies of our childhood.
There is so much to unpack from this action-filled trailer, so here are some of the best reactions and fan theories!
Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania will be released in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
