As if life couldn’t get any weirder these days, on Wednesday, July 26, former Air Force intelligence officer and “UFO whistleblower” David Grusch said in a Congressional hearing that the U.S. government had uncovered “non-human biologics” and UFOs, and possibly had them in possession. — This is something many Americans had always suspected, but now that some convincing news is out in the world, it’s clear — thanks to all of the memes about aliens that have hit the internet — the American people truly don’t care.
I’m someone who’s a big fan of conspiracy theories, and even I didn’t hear about this news right away. When I did read about it, I couldn’t be bothered at first to dig deeper. The news about UFO whistleblower Grusch didn’t erupt a storm on social media like people anticipated, and it’s clear the reason is because people on the internet have bigger things to worry about. With the rise of inflation, a housing crisis, and the environment at stake, Americans have enough to worry about. Regardless, that didn’t stop Gen Z from creating the ultimate alien memes and being so unserious on social media about this decades-long speculation.
I first learned about the potential alien and UFO news not from reliable news sources, but from memes on TikTok and Twitter that had me crying. The funniest and most accurate memes on Twitter surround the real world issues all Americans are facing, and show that most people truly don’t have the energy to deal with the news of aliens existing.
People on TikTok are also having a blast with this “confirmation” of aliens, flooding FYPs with memes of everything from making friends with aliens to aliens reacting to earth’s brutal state, to even aliens wanting to see the Barbie movie.
You can catch me spending the rest of my Friday scrolling through memes to distract myself from real-life issues.
