The big cheese (sorry) of fast food restaurants is currently under fire, thanks to a Twitter trend highlighting the greatest of all woes: cheese-less mozzarella sticks.Â
Hahaha McDonald’s mozzarella sticks are a joke. They don’t even have cheese in them @McDonalds pic.twitter.com/yWgR4oGu3u

Say it ain’t so, Ronald, say it ain’t so. But alas, our fellow mozz lovers have indeed been robbed of their precious cheesy prizes, at least according to ample online rants.Â

We should’ve known that the $1 menu item (sold as a tasty trio of sticks accompanied by marinara sauce) was just too good to be true (insert bawling emoji here). The culprit of this blasphemy? Over-zealous ovens that baked out all of the cheese, reports Delish, based on a statement made by McDonald’s.Â
But wait. What’s this? An array of ooey-gooey cheese-filled sticks do exist?Â
I just went to the McDonald’s around the corner to find out if their mozzarella sticks contained cheese. Behold: pic.twitter.com/fGBCezoD5i

As it turns out, our friends at BuzzFeed conducted their own research on the topic (bless you, Buzzfeed), only to discover that in-tact mozzarella sticks are being sold.
The takeaway? If you’re all for the thrill of risk-taking, order up a triad of these mysterious menu items yourself. Just be warned—you may be in for a not-so-happy meal (pun absolutely intended).Â
