Joe Biden & Kamala Harris are Bringing Their Presidential Campaign to Animal Crossing with Downloadable Yard Signs

The Coronavirus pandemic has gotten everyone thinking creatively – even politicians. Animal Crossing’s virtual island is the latest to enter the political world, thanks to the Biden-Harris campaign. Starting today, players can download custom campaign signs to add to their front yards as an initiative to gather voters online this fall.

The Coronavirus pandemic threw everyone for a loop, causing the Biden-Harris campaign to change strategies for gathering voters as the election draws closer. They’ve previously live-streamed their events instead of hosting large in-person gatherings.

The announcement of using Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a platform comes just after the National Democratic Convention was held virtually earlier this month. “Animal Crossing is a dynamic, diverse, and powerful platform that brings communities together from across the world. It is an exciting new opportunity for our campaign to engage and connect Biden-Harris supporters as they build and decorate their islands,” the Biden campaign’s digital partnerships director Christian Tom told The Verge

Some voters view this as a distraction from what they’d really like to see addressed, while others are over politicians trying to be “hip”:

But others still can see the silly joy in it:

If you want to show off your support for the Biden-Harris campaign on your island away from home, there are currently four design codes you can download tp display, including the official Biden-Harris team logo, a Team Joe logo, a Joe Pride logo and a red, white and blue themed aviators sign. Players can download these designs by scanning the QR codes through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Tom also mentioned to The Verge that they plan to roll out more “digital swag” as the election closes in.

Wonder what virtual realm the election will take over next? I, personally, hope for a Biden themed avatar to hit Mario Kart this fall.
